Wii to be Region-free.
Wired blogger, 1UP contributor and Retronaut Chris Kohler, by way of his Game|Life blog, has broken the news that the Nintendo Wii will be region-free, which means that the system can play games from anywhere around the world.
Wired's Joel Johnson interviewed Perrin Kaplan, Nintendo VP of Marketing, where it was revealed that the Wii has a software switch that individual developers can choose to enable if they want to activate region coding, but all signs point to Nintendo themselves not utilizing this technology.
Let's hope that all third parties everywhere follow suit. Or that they don't notice that part in the Wii devkit instruction manual.
